Meet Cocoa Bean, mostly known as “little bit” in her foster home because she’s so little. We just can’t say enough good things about Cocoa. She has charmed everyone she has met! In short, she's a gorgeous, petite, athletic cuddlebug. We think she is around 2 years old, so she’s beyond those crazy puppy years but there are so many great years to come!
Cocoa Bean is fantastic with other dogs! She has shown no signs of aggression with any human or dog. Even when the resident dogs in her foster home have snarled at her or even tried to pick fights, she has not shown aggression. While she does get along with other dogs great, she seems to rely more on her person than her doggy companions, so we think she would do well as an only pet or with other dogs as long as she has a companion around most of the time.
She really wants nothing more than to have a life equal parts running and cuddling. She took to loose leash walking pretty quickly with the introduction of a gentle leader, so she’s ready to be your walking or jogging companion! Cocoa would love a home where there is someone home a lot as she definitely wants to be your shadow.
Oh and kids, Cocoa LOVES KIDS. Her foster home does not have kids but sometimes we walk her to a local patio restaurant where she behaves relatively well (sometimes can’t resist trying to get food off the table, but mostly just hangs out and enjoys the attention). When children show her affection, she’s in absolute heaven.
The only explanation as to why Cocoa hasn’t been adopted quickly is that she can jump a 6 ft fence in the blink of an eye, so her forever people are going to have to get creative to keep her safe. She’s really not usually trying to go for a run, but just trying to hunt in several people’s yards instead of just her own. We are using an aerial tie out to keep her safely in the yard and still able to hunt and get some zoomies in, and she has really taken to it. Of course, any sort of tie out is only a safe option when her human is within ear shot so we can quickly untangle her if she gets caught up on something, which rarely happens. But she is crate trained and does really well in her crate when foster mom has to work away from home.
This girl is very birdy and prey driven, and she tends to stay quiet while backyard hunting, so we think she may make a good hunting companion. Because she is so prey driven, she will do best without cats or other prey-like critters around.
Cocoa has some basic manners like a really solid sit-stay, and is food motivated so with a little training, she can learn what she lacks. She still needs door manners and a solid recall. She is house broken now and will even make a little extra noise if foster mom is ignoring her pacing when she needs out. She also seems to understand dog toys vs other random objects and the only real destruction she’s done is that she cannot resist a roll of toilet paper!
