Hello hoooomans...my name is Ellie. I came into rescue with a different name but so far I love this new name. I had a rough 2021 but I am confident 2022 is my year and that I will find my perfect match of a family. Here is what you need to know about me:
- I just turned 7!
- I am housetrained.
- I can be trusted in the house without a crate when you leave.
- If you prefer to crate me then I prefer the wire crate with a comfy bed in it and maybe when you leave give me a kong or puzzle with some treats because FOOD IS MY FAVORITE!
- I do not countersurf ( unlike my previous sibling that ended up giving me too much anxiety for me to live with her any longer- something about her made me anxious- i have had zero anxiety since being away from her)
- I am a squirrel freak. With proper redirection I am getting better. I do this annoying barking thing when I see them. My foster mom says I have shown much improvement but will need reinforcement.
- I THRIVE on Routine. Once I am in a routine and know my boundaries I settle in.
- I am told I really prefer men over women but I can love both. I love giving both my foster mom and dad kisses. I am also told that given the opportunity I can be demanding. I do this whiny and talking thing. My foster mom saw and heard it the first couple days I came to her home but I guess I learned that being demanding like that didnt get me what I wanted so I haven't done it again. Ok, I did it a couple times when I didn't want to be crated away from all the other dogs but then I stopped after 5 min or so.
- I am not the dog to get if you are looking for a playmate for a current dog. I am good with other dogs with proper introduction but I am pretty indifferent. Every now and then i will initiate play but for the most part I am not the one you want if you are looking for a companion for a pet or one to take to dog parks. That is not my thing. I prefer humans.
- I am a very strong and muscular female GSP. I am not a petite girl. I do great on the freedom harness.
- There is no reason for you to have a Ring doorbell with me around. I can be your security alarm. At my fosters house I know the difference between a stranger and the neighbors and will let you know!
- When you watch me run or even take me for a run ( I could really improve someones marathon time) then you might think I am part deer. I run like a deer and I make it look so graceful. My foster mom loves watching me run on the 2 acres of fenced property.
- I am not an escape artist. I do well with tall privacy fences and I also do great with the shorter ranch fencing at my foster home. No escaping for me.
- I fear the vet with a passion. My vet has recommended in the future that I have special "treats" two hours before arriving so that everyone has a better visit and things are able to be done. Maybe this will get better in time but i did see three different vets.
- I am the perfect travel companion. I went on a long road trip with my foster mom and she said I was so quiet the whole time and perfect at the hotel too.
- I have been known to have some storm anxiety. Nothing major though. I just like to be close if a big thunderstorm rolls in.
- I really want a quiet, no chaos household. Small kids and babies are probably not ideal for me and definitely no puppies please. No cats either!
- I have the most velvet feeling GSP coat you probably will ever touch. It's not the food. It's just me! Trust me. Everyone comments on how my coat feels like velvet.
- My ideal family will continue my training and positive reinforcement. I really enjoy my training time!
That about sums me up. If you think we might be a match and you have already gone through the approval process to adopt through Texas GSP Rescue please reach out to your area coordinator. If you have not please fill out an application to start the process!
