Hoss (Clarendon, TX)
Howdy Y’all - I am Hoss. I am a BIG (78 pounds!) 5 year old GSP looking for a place to call home. As I said, I am a big guy - my New Year’s resolutions were simple - lose weight and find a forever home. I like to walk and am working on leash manners (and my weight) through regular outings. I am tugger and a puller, but respond well with the gentle lead leash. The walks are great for my fitness program. Did I mention I counter surf from time to time? You might want to make a note of that…
I am house and crate trained. I love to hang in the backyard and nap in the sun. I patrol the yard for birds and squirrels because that’s my job! I am food/treat motivated so up for training if treating is involved! I can do ‘sit’ and ‘down’ and am working on ‘heel’. I have zero recall so might be a good training opportunity for my new family! I am great in the car. I would love a big yard so I have a potty area and a play area (you don’t want me tracking anything inside - am I right?).
I am a people pleaser. I want your praise and will work for it. I never want to disappoint you! I have been known to self crate and pout if I disappoint and you correct me. It’s embarrassing - really… I love to fetch balls but am a little bit toy destructive - you might want to make note of that also. I am good with children. I live with very young children and do well, but need a place I can call my own to hang when I am done with my ‘little people time’. I would do well with children that respect my space and I will reciprocate! I do great with other dogs and while I have not met a cat, my foster thinks that I would likely not be ‘cat friendly’.
You are probably thinking to yourself, “Self, how will I know that Hoss likes something?” Well, I will let you know - I am a teeth chatterer! It makes the humans here laugh but it gets my point across! I shake a little sometimes when I am excited or nervous. My foster thought that I might have a little separation anxiety - so if they are away for a long time, I get a yummy calming treat (did I mention that I like treats - ALL treats).
Overall, my fosters say that I am a good guy. They give me two thumbs up! Have I piqued your interest? Does your backyard look empty? Are squirrels and birds out of control? Are you looking for a walking buddy to help with your New Year’s resolution? Well if you answered yes to one or more of these questions and you are approved to adopt through Texas GSP Rescue, contact your area coordinator and let’s meet! You can tell me all about you! I am ready to go home - will it be your home?
