Indie (Monroe, LA)

Indie is the kind of dog who makes you feel like you've known her forever. This beautiful two-year-old liver patched roan German Shorthaired Pointer has a gentle, unhurried spirit that sets her apart, she is more laid back than most GSPs her age, deeply affectionate, and utterly devoted to the people around her.

Indie came to us through no fault of her own, surrendered because she had no interest in hunting. What we discovered instead is a highly intelligent, independent thinker who responds beautifully to patient, consistent training. She is well-mannered with people both children and adults and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Her compatibility with cats is unknown, so a slow, careful introduction would be recommended.

When Indie arrived, she was heartworm positive, but she has since completed her full treatment and received a clean bill of health from her vet, she is healthy and ready for her fresh start. Because her recovery required strict rest, her leash training was limited; however, the work we did accomplish was very encouraging. She walked calmly beside her handler without pulling, which speaks to her trainable nature and gentle temperament. A new family should plan to continue leash work as she settles in.

Around the house, Indie is an absolute delight. She does not counter surf, though she does enjoy stationing herself in the kitchen just in case you need a little help cooking. She loves chew toys, treats, and belly rubs, and she will happily follow you from room to room just to be near you. She is crate trained and prefers to be fed in her crate. In the evenings, when the television clicks off, she trots back to her crate and tucks herself in for the night, though if given the opportunity, she will quietly sneak onto the bed and curl up at the foot, hoping no one notices.

Indie is most comfortable in familiar surroundings and does best when transitions are handled with patience and consistency. She travels well once underway, and is still building her confidence when it comes to loading into a vehicle.
