Hello there GSP fans - I AM JULIA!
I am a 10-11 year old liver roan GSP. I am what you call a tripod. That means that I have 3 legs and not 4. To be honest, I am not sure that 4 are necessary as I get along just fine with the 3 that I have. I don’t remember where that 4th one went - but that, like my life before coming to my Texas GSP foster, is history and I am focused on my future!
Let me tell you a bit about myself then I can tell you about the future - as I dream it.
My foster Mom says that I am a cuddle bug. I am house and crate trained. I get along well with other dogs, but I think that it is important to set boundaries. I am older so a rough and rowdy pack can be a bit much for me (ok, maybe I do see a steadying need for the 4th leg). Being bumped into and run over isn’t pleasant - and I will scold a pack member for this. As the pack lead, I will look to you to manage my safe transition into my new family. I have a male foster brother and we run around the yard and chase balls together. That is fun!
About cats, probably a bad idea to have one in the same house as I still have a strong prey drive. I said that I am older but… some things are just instinct.
I LOVE ❤️ TOYS!!! Plush toys and balls are awesome. I like to chase after a tennis ball. When the mood strikes I carry them around the house and drop them - then catch them on the bounce. My foster Mom thinks it is funny to watch as I entertain myself bouncing and catching balls. I have found that when you drop a plush toy - it doesn’t bounce. But I still like the plush toys and get excited to drop them and push them around.
I sleep loose in the house but if your bed will accommodate a nice, older, warm, affectionate GSP… I would be more than willing to fill the void. Once I settle in, I can probably be trusted to be loose in the house when you are out. I suggest that you don’t leave anything tempting on the counter or trash that I might be able to rummage through. Just saying…
Health wise, I am older and a quiet life suits me fine (well, throw in a couple of tennis balls and a plush toy or two). I love to snuggle on the sofa. I am not particular about what we watch on TV - I just want you next to me on the sofa. I am good on a leash but long walks are a bit tiring. But a short walk with you - sign me up!
I am spayed and up to date with my shots. When I came to the rescue, I was tested for heartworm and I am positive. (Maybe I should have studied more for that test…). I am undergoing treatment and the rescue will provide medication and follow-up testing. I also have gingivitis. The vet says good food and dental treats will help with this. For now, I eat slowly and I am doing well.
Storms unsettle me a bit. I pace, but sitting with you would be a comfort. I would do best with older children. Those young ones startle me - they can be unpredictable. I am in my twilight years and I don’t like being startled - who does? A quiet home with bouncy balls, plush toys, a sofa, a big bed, a backyard - and most of all YOU, would be awesome.
My future…. I see a quiet, loving home with maybe a respectful pack. The home would have a nice backyard where you toss around tennis balls for me. And when you are tired of doing that, I can entertain myself or - even better - we could go snuggle on the sofa and watch TV or listen to music. As long as I am with you, it’s a good place to be.
Are You looking for a mature GSP to chase balls a little in your yard and snuggle with you on the sofa? Maybe your bed feels too big and a GSP would make it just right? Do you like a short daily walk and maybe need a companion?
If you find this future enticing, then fill out an application and contact your area coordinator. I am in Amarillo but my future could be a happily ever after any place in Texas, Oklahoma or Louisiana. As long as you are there…. sign me up!
