Myles aka Smyles
Myles is an owner surrender dog who has clearly had a good life. He’s well behaved, he’s loved, and not at all skittish. We’re told that Myles is 11, but he looks beautiful and shows very little signs of age. After spending about a month and a half in the shelter, he came to my house as a foster. It took him a couple of days to acclimate, with a handful of accidents, he quickly became one of the pack. Myles currently lives with two kids, 15 and 11, two cats, and three other dogs. He slid right into the fray without a stress in the world. He currently sleeps in a crate downstairs and sleeps through the night. He doesn’t love the crate but he goes in without a fight. I work part time and my daughter is in a hybrid school, so people are with Myles a lot.
Personality- this is where he gets good! Myles is probably the sweetest dog to ever live on this earth. He’s endearing with his toys in his mouth, he stares lovingly at you until you notice him, but he rarely begs for attention. He’s happiest when he’s curled up next to one of his people, with an arm around him. That Velcro GSP personality? ALL MYLES. He smiles, which has created his nickname, Smyles. My kids adore him, my dogs adore him, my cats tolerate him, and everyone he meets is a friend. He’s good in public, he’s good on leash with a pinch, and he’s a good running partner. His favorite thing to do is hunt for animals in the grass on our daily walks, and he pounces into the grass like a puppy.
His age- Not a huge deal, he’s healthy as can be. Clean white teeth, beautiful clean skin, soft fur, no scent whatsoever, good breath. His eyes are getting a little cloudy, which we think impacts his vision a little. He doesn’t see the bunnies on walks that our 3 year old GSP sees. He’s a little slow to jump up on things, but he still does. His medical came back clean, he recovered from a respiratory infection at the shelter, very quickly.
Positives: FRIENDLY to cats, dogs, kids, adults, men, women, etc. He’s a friend to all and a stranger to none. He’s potty trained. He was good off the furniture until my son taught him to jump up, but I am sure he’s easy to set boundaries with. Good in the car, good with new people.
Negatives: He’s a hot mess and cuddles harder than any dog I’ve ever seen, which might be a bit much for a super young child. He has no fear of danger, so I would avoid having him off leash. He has absolutely stolen all of our hearts. If we didn’t already have a ton of animals, we’d throw him right into the mix. He’s a dream companion, and he’s good some good years ahead of him.
